A one-week journey that covers some of Sri Lanka’s exceptional sites, cities and experiences.
First-time visitors with limited time who want an introduction to Sri Lanka, or those who are taking a stopover to other destinations such as Europe
Welcome to Sri Lanka. You will be met upon arrival and transferred a short distance to your nearby hotel.
Set off for Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle. Drive to Sigiriya, stopping en route at the World Heritage-listed Dambulla Cave Temple, considered to be the largest, best-preserved cave temple complex in the country. Marvel at its outstanding collection of Buddha images.
Visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka’s most popular attractions. Take your time to explore Sigiriya, with its tough climb of 1,200 steps to the top of the rock. Enjoy the panoramic views from the summit and the beautiful cave frescoes. You can also opt to climb just part of the way. In the afternoon, relax at your hotel or take an optional jeep safari to see the wild elephants in Minneriya National Park (direct payment).
Drive to Kegalle and experience some of Sri Lanka’s colonial heritage with a tea plantation stay. Discover life on a working tea estate through plantation walks and a tea factory visit over the next two days. Your accommodation here is also a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the lush natural surroundings. Enjoy a pot of tea on the verandah, yoga classes, or a swim in the pool. In the afternoon, take a guided village and plantation walk.
Uncover the secrets of Sri Lankan recipes with a hands-on cooking class. Learn to cook authentic Sri Lankan meat and vegetable curries and a traditional salad. Afterwards, enjoy a leisurely lunch of the dishes you have prepared. Later, visit the nearby tea factory and learn about tea processing.
Depart for Galle, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city and popular destination for visitors to Sri Lanka. There’s much to see and experience in Galle with its colonial homes, impressive fort walls and the much-photographed lighthouse. Inside the fort walls, the almost-car-free, cobbled streets are a pleasant and easy place to explore on foot. Afternoon at leisure.
Discover Galle with a gentle guided walking tour. See the city’s key sights, hear some of its intriguing history and meet some of the local characters. During this fascinating tour stop for a cup of tea, chat to an amateur historian and taste some popular local snacks. In the afternoon, travel by tuk tuk through back roads and paddy fields to visit the Yatagala Temple
Morning at leisure in Galle. Take some time to explore the city’s modern boutiques and visit its inviting cafes and restaurants. Later, you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to Colombo’s international airport for your departing flight
