A picturesque drive along Kandalama Lake leads you to Wild Grass Nature Resort, an upmarket-eco resort surrounded by nothing but nature. Ideally situated within 30 minutes of one of Sri Lanka’s top attractions - Sigiriya Rock Fortress – Wild Grass Nature Resort is welcoming to families and couples alike who wish to be immersed in Sri Lanka’s beautiful natural environment, while at the same time be within easy driving distance to key attractions. From here you can explore Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Dambulla Cave Temple and take a safari to see the wild elephants in Minneriya National Park.
Wild Grass Nature Resort is set in 25 acres of unfenced forest area with just eight stand-alone villas – some are single story that sit raised above the ground, while there are several two-level villas perfect for families. The villas feature spacious bedrooms with balconies opening onto the lake, with each villa boasting a lake view. In fact you can indulge in afternoon tea on your balcony should you wish to relax with a book or just enjoy the view. Breakfast can also be served on your private balcony on special request, a great option for a lazy morning. The villas have large glass windows and doors, helping you to connect with nature and enjoy the beautiful surrounding views. Interiors are simple, elegant and minimalistic. The two story villas are a great option for families travelling in Sri Lanka with older children, as there are two rooms and plenty of space for everyone to relax.
The resort’s main building includes a lounge area and restaurant on the first floor. There’s also a swimming pool close to the main lounge. The restaurant serves both Sri Lankan and Western cuisine, with breakfast being a combination of the two. The meals are a la carte and customised based on individual preferences.
One of the main features of Wild Grass Nature Resort that makes it among our top hotels in Sri Lanka are the onsite activities such as the walking trails and nature walks with the in-house naturalist, as well as the special dining experiences the resort creates. There’s a sunrise breakfast picnic with views of Sigiriya, tea on the rock and the memorable `Sparkling Sky Dinner’.
During our recent stay at the resort we rose early to test the breakfast on the rock – and it turned out to be a highlight of our tour of Sri Lanka. The experience included a picnic breakfast fully set up by the hotel on a rocky outcrop with a delicious feast and incredible views. We loved the thoughtfully created platter of Sri Lankan breakfast that included homemade local breakfast rolls (Kimbula Bunis), local breakfast sweets (Laveriya and Halapa) and a hearty Sri Lankan breakfast including Sri Lankan milk rice and chilli relish. The hotel makes its own bread, therefore all freshly made and simply delicious. Definitely worth getting out of bed early for!
A visit to Wild Grass Nature Resort will allow you to experience a quiet and secluded stay in some of Sri Lanka’s beautiful natural environment, within close proximity of key attractions.
