Welcome to Colombo. You will be met upon arrival and transferred to your hotel near Negombo. Your first night stay will be a homestay. Your hosts are warm and friendly making sure that you have a good night rest in their beautiful villa.
Wake up refreshed after a long flight to enjoy your breakfast. Your hosts will serve you a generous spread consisting of continental and traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. After breakfast depart for Kandy, the capital of Sri Lanka's hill country. Visit the UNESCO Temple of Tooth, the much revered sacred temple of locals and Buddhists from abroad. Drive to your accommodation in Doluwa, located about 45 minutes from Kandy. You will stay in a tastefully designed and restored boutique hotel which was once a tea plantation bungalow. There is plenty of space for children to run around and enjoy, including a pool overlooking the mountains. This property serves delicious afternoon tea if you are up to it. There are movies and a small library if you are in the mood to read or enjoy a movie together.
Discover Sri Lanka's tea country today, with a tuk tuk ride and visit to a small family run tea plantation. The owner is great at showing the centuries old traditions and practices that have been passed down from one generation to another. After learning a little about the history of tea and tea making, enjoy a picnic breakfast on the scenic banks of the river. Afterwards, enjoy a bike riding experience on the local backroads and return to the hotel to relax and unwind. There's plenty to keep children occupied at your accommodation - with board games, movies and a swimming pool.
Drive to Kandy this morning and uncover the secrets of Sri Lankan cuisine with a hands on cooking class conducted by an expert local host. Enjoy your breakfast at leisure this morning and head to visit Ritigala Archeological Monastery, one of Sri Lanka's lesser-known, but fascinating cultural sites. Begin your morning with a gentle nature walk, and picnic breakfast with a view of the scenic countryside. Afterwards, there's time time to splash in the pool or just relax at your villa. In the afternoon, marvel at the wild elephants on a jeep safari into Minneriya National Park.
Rise early this morning to climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress before the heat of the day. This taxing though manageable climb will reward you with views of the beautiful cave frescoes as you make the climb up Sigiriya Rock and views of the surrounding plateau as you reach the summit. Return to the hotel, enjoy your breakfast and drive to Kalkudah, on the east coast of Sri Lanka. The remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy the beach and your hotel.
